PIA LARSEN
Title: First Principles
Dimensions: 30cm h x 30cm w x 12cm d
Materials: copper, paper & wood
Year: 2010
The sculpture touches on a number of ideas that inform my work. For this piece I have re-framed the starting point for the etching matrix, (a pristine copper plate) and literally recast the printing paper as the content of the work.
Paper is presented as part of a cycle with miniature log-like offcuts of wood scattered amongst circular pages from op shop books, along with twig-like shapes and larger ridged tubes, constituted from the pulp of my recycled prints. The plate, instead of being etched into, has become a pristine mirror-like base making precious the materials arranged upon it.
